401(k) Day - September 11, 2009

What is 401(k)?

401(k) Day is an annual celebration spotlighting the importance of employer-sponsored profit sharing and 401(k) plans. As retirement follows work, 401(k) Day officially falls on the last day after Labor Day. Some companies celebrate 401(k) Day on another date that is more convenient for their workforce.

Your Super Retirement

In 2008, many companies promoted 401(k) Day by using PSCA's "401(k) Day, You're In Control" program. Visit the 401(k) Day Web site for more details. PSCA has also made available online games that are both fun and educational. Employees of PSCA member companies may also view our educational video, 401(k): A Plan That Pays.

Dress for Retirement

If your company celebrates 401(k) Day, you may be encouraged to "dress for retirement" on 401(k) Day. On 401(k) Day many people will arrive at work wearing clothing representing the leisure they hope to experience during retirement. Get creative! Some companies may award prizes for the best-dressed-in-retirement.

Why Celebrate 401(k) Plans?

401(k) plans, only twenty years old, have quickly grown into the backbone of Americans' savings, particularly their retirement savings. For the majority of the workforce, 401(k) savings will play a crucial role in establishing a secure future. 401(k) plans have also helped spread the idea of saving and investing to Americans across the income spectrum. 401(k) plans have helped demystify investing and make it accessible to nearly all workers.

Take Control with Your 401(k)

"It was the consensus of our committee members that Take Control with Your 401(k) has a very cleary written section on every important 401(k) topic... so we bought a copy for everyone!"

Dennis Buster, Everett Charles Technologies, Inc.

David Wray's book, Take Control with Your 401(k) has been revised to reflect the changes that have occurred since the book was originally published in 2002.
